Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ
Do I need to tune my new DishTV receiver in?
No. The DishTV receiver comes pre-programmed. You do not need to tune in a new DishTV receiver.
On my S7050PVR can I record one channel and watch ANY other channel?
No. The S7050PVR is a single tuner PVR. This means that when recording you can only watch whatever other channels are available on the same mux, or on the same frequency. For example if you record TVOne, you can still watch TV2, TVNZ6 or TVNZ7. The S7050PVR automatically blanks out the other channels to save you from ruining your recording by moving to a different frequency. If you want to have the choice of recording one channel while watching any other - you will need to have a PVR with two tuners. However it is still probably cheaper to just buy a second S7050PVR instead.
What size USB HDD can the S7050PVR take?
We have tested the S7050PVR on USB HDDs up to 1TB. There are two main things to make sure you do to have the drive work properly:
- The USB HDD needs to have an external power supply so that the receiver does not have to power the drive.
- The drive should be formatted in FAT32 format. It will work with NTFS but some have had issues with this format in large drives.
Can I use a USB Flashdrive?
Yes we have used 1gb, 2gb, and 4gb flashdrives to record on the S7050PVR, the only problem you have is you run out of drive space quickly.
How do I burn programmes from my S7050PVR onto DVD on my PC?
The S7050PVR gives you the option to record either in TS or PS mode. TS mode is a recording of the transport stream. PS mode records the programme in Mpeg format. If you want to use the recorded file on a PC, make sure you choose PS format. Once the recording is made you can take the file on the USB HDD to your PC and use a standard DVD creator program to make a DVD. A DVD creator program will recognise the Mpeg2 format of the recorded programme.
What is TS mode and PS mode?
See above.
Can I play avi files and other video files on the S7050PVR as a media player?
Not directly. However using a free video converter such as Super, you can convert any video files to Mpeg2 SD format and they can then be played on your S7050PVR.
Does the S7050PVR have component output?
Yes it has both RGB and CVBS (also known as YUV) outputs.
How do I use the time shift on the S7050PVR?
The time shift is a function that PVRs use to allow you to rewind live TV. When the time shift function is turned on in the menu, the PVR will constantly record the channel it is on. The amount of constantly recorded program is set in the menu. For example you could set the PVR to record the last hour of the current channel. To use the time shift simply press rewind to rewind what was live TV back to the start of your program or to watch some action you missed.
Please note that when you change channel, you lose the time shift from that channel and a new one begins.
I have connected my DishTV receiver to my dish but it wont work why?
Satellite dishes come with a number of different LNBs on them. The LNB is the small plastic box on the end of the arm out in front of the dish. The LNB receives the signal from the satellite dish, converts it,and sends it down the cable to your receiver.
If your satellite dish is correctly aligned (for Freeview it needs to be aligned to Optus D1 satellite, the same one that SKY uses) and the LNB is still in good working order, you may need to change the LNB settings in your receiver as in New Zealand there are two different commonly used LNB frequencies.
It is best to begin this by climbing up to the dish and reading the label on the LNB.
The label will tell you that the LNB L.O. (local oscillator frequency) is:
1) 11300 or 11.3
2) 10750 or 10.75
Note: other frequencies are possible, please call us for assistance if your LNB label has something different.
Now go into the menu and change the LNB frequency to the same as your LNB.

How do I get the on-screen TV guide or EPG on my DishTV receiver?
You can view the EPG (electronic programme guide) by pressing the EPG button on your remote control.
